Building Pocket Films: leveraging AI in the media sector

Finding the right studio, screening room or post house still runs on phone calls and favours. Pocket Films brings it all into one platform, and Level took it from strategy to launch.

A fragmented industry

Every production is a puzzle of people and places. Studios, screening rooms, post-production facilities and freelance talent are spread across countless websites, inboxes and personal networks. Finding the right fit takes time that productions rarely have, and great providers stay invisible unless someone already knows their name.

Pocket Films set out to fix that: one platform that connects creatives with the facilities they need, helps businesses get discovered and win new work, and uses AI to take the friction out of every stage of a production.

From strategy to a live platform

Level worked with Pocket Films from the first product decisions through to launch:

  • Product strategy and system architecture
  • Native iOS and Android apps, plus a web app for providers
  • API infrastructure with AI-powered discovery and matching
  • UX and UI design, user flows and a complete design system

That’s four surfaces, mobile, web, API and an AI agent, built on one foundation, so a new feature or provider shows up everywhere at once.

Meet Juno

The centrepiece is Juno, an AI assistant that searches, shortlists and compares providers conversationally. Instead of filtering endless listings, a producer can describe what they need, an underwater shoot or a screening room for fifty, and Juno lines up the options, explains the trade-offs and helps the team decide together.

Under the hood, Juno draws on the same discovery and matching engine as the rest of the platform. That means its answers are grounded in real providers on the platform, not a model’s best guess.

Momentum before launch

Pocket Films debuted at the European Film Festival, and the industry showed up early:

  • More than 500 providers onboarded ahead of public launch
  • Early adopters including Warner Bros, Canon, BFI, Shadow Box Studios, Soho House and Sky Studios

What we learned

AI works best on top of good data. Juno is only as useful as the providers behind it, so the matching engine and the listing experience got as much care as the assistant itself.

Design for both sides of the marketplace. Producers need speed and confidence; providers need an easy way to show what makes them worth booking. The design system kept both experiences consistent.

Build once, ship everywhere. A shared API meant the apps, web and Juno could grow together instead of drifting apart.

Marketplaces live or die on trust and speed. With Pocket Films, AI is there to deliver both.
